Gerald Place Programs

Trocaire College and Gerard Place are partnering to offer the Phlebotomy, Sterile Processing, Pharmacy Tech, and Healthcare Career Exploration programs. This application is free. Applications will be reviewed first come, first served.

This program enables participants to learn about the healthcare system and various career opportunities available within healthcare.

EKG Technician

This program prepares interested students for entry-level positions of cardiac EKG and Cardiac Monitor Technicians employed in hospitals, physician offices and/or hospital telemetry units.  This program will prepare students with the skills and knowledge to perform tests on cardiovascular systems of patients as well as read and identify EKGs.

  • Lecture: March 17th-May 21st, 2026
    • Tuesdays (Virtual) @5pm-8:30pm
    • Thursday (In-Person) @9am-12:30pm
  • Clinical: May 4th-May 15th (No Saturday classes)
  • Classes will be held in person at Gerard Place.

Phlebotomy

Phlebotomists are technicians trained to draw blood for medical tests, transfusions, donations, or research. Working in phlebotomy may require you to provide assistance if patients have adverse reactions to their blood draw or simply to explain your work and help patients feel less nervous. Phlebotomists are also responsible for the assembly and maintenance of a variety of medical instruments, including needles, test tubes, and blood vials. It is vital that they also keep a safe and sanitary work area, as well as correctly label drawn blood for testing or processing.

Sterile Processing

Sterile Processors operate and maintain steam autoclaves, keeping records of loads completed, items in loads, and maintenance procedures performed. Clean instruments to prepare them for sterilization. Record sterilizer test results. Organize and assemble routine or specialty surgical instrument trays or other sterilized supplies, filling special requests as needed. Examine equipment to detect leaks, worn or loose parts, or other indications of disrepair.

Pharmacy Tech

This program is designed to train students for a career as a Pharmacy Technician in hospitals or pharmacies. The Pharmacy Technician Program provides students with the skills and knowledge to work in the Pharmacy environment. Pharmacy technicians typically work under the direction of a Pharmacist to measure, mix, count out, label, and record amounts and dosages of medications based on the prescription order, as well as provide customer service.
