In His Own Words:

What led you to the Nursing Program at Trocaire? Why did you want to explore the healthcare field, and then, nursing education?

I have always wanted to be in the healthcare field. I started my education with a focus on biology and quickly changed my major to nursing. I have always heard wonderful things about Trocaire and know friends and family who completed the program. While in school, I began tutoring and enjoyed helping others succeed. After finishing my BSN, I returned to Trocaire as a tutor while I worked on completing my MSN to transition to nursing faculty before my current role as director.

Describe your Trocaire experience. What does Trocaire mean to you?

From student to faculty and staff, I have been able to see the full circle impact Trocaire has on students and the greater community. Having a work study position in the Office of Institutional Advancement allowed me to see a different perspective of how an institution of higher education leaves a lasting impression on individuals.

What do you do now, and why do you love it?

As a Program Director, I support the day-to-day operations of the nursing program. Within the role, I help make decisions to improve the program, student learning outcomes, and ultimately patient care. Going full circle from student to program director has allowed me an opportunity to view various situations from multiple angles. I love having an opportunity to be involved with the positive changes to the program.

Any advice you like to share to new nurses or someone interested in Trocaire?

Hit the ground ready to begin. We must learn to walk before we can run. Nursing is an exciting career with many opportunities and specialty areas which all start with the first part of becoming a nurse. Take time to determine how you best learn, how you organize your notes, and create a study schedule. Consistency, repetition, and organization are the fundamentals to any academic program. Academic programs at Trocaire prepare you not only with the information for success, but also the skills and competencies.
