Trocaire College is offering a 10-week course in phlebotomy that comes with a suite of support services, all at no extra cost to participants.

The Phlebotomy Plus program begins April 7 and runs through June 9, 2020. The cost of the course is $1,250, but thanks to a partnership with 716 Ministries through the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County, the following expenses will also be covered at no additional cost:

  • Transportation
  • Textbook
  • Phlebotomy chart
  • Eight sessions of work readiness preparation
  • Mentoring

Offered by Trocaire’s Office of Workforce Development and Professional and Continuing Education, this phlebotomy course includes both classroom instruction and hands-on laboratory experiences that train participants to safely and correctly draw blood for medical tests, transfusions, donations or research. Completion of the course will prepare students for all entry-level phlebotomy competencies as well as give them eligibility to sit for the National Certifying Exam.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, phlebotomists in Western New York can expect a median annual wage of $35,000 or $17/hour. Starting salaries can be $28,500 or roughly $15/hour.
