About Trocaire College

Trocaire College has provided students the skills needed to enter the workforce for more than 50 years. Our flexible scheduling meets the needs of all students no matter their walk of life. Whether it is students coming directly from high school or the non-traditional student with family and work obligations, we cater to your unique needs.

Students can study in state-of-the-art facilities and laboratories that are complete with computer centers. Courses are offered with flexibility in mind both day and night to help you complete your program’s requirements while working around your schedule. And with smaller classroom sizes, each student will receive more personal attention from professors and instructors.


HISTORY AND MISSION

Trocaire College was founded in 1958 in the City of Buffalo by the Sisters of Mercy as Sancta Maria College, offering higher educational opportunities to women of the order. The College gained distinction early on in the field of nursing and health science education.

With a mission to create a learning community, empowering students to discover themselves and assist students in entering their desired field, Trocaire College is firmly rooted in its desire to advance the students’ that we serve.

In 1967, the college’s name was officially changed to Trocaire, the Gaelic word for mercy, to honor the heritage of the founding Sisters. From there, Trocaire College granted admission to lay female students in 1965 and male students in 1972.

The college has evolved extensively over the past 50 years as it has evolved into its current structure. The Trocaire College of today is a vibrant, multi-dimensional coeducational Catholic college that continues to operate in the spirit of the Sisters of Mercy. The college continues these values and is an active member of the Conference for Mercy Higher Education.
