Press Release: Trocaire Announces Participation in the NY State Enhanced Tuition Awards (ETA) Program

Trocaire College Announces Participation in the
NY State Enhanced Tuition Awards (ETA) Program

Begins fall 2017

BUFFALO, NEW YORK – June 23, 2017 – Trocaire College announced today its decision to participate in the new program designed by New York State to help students better afford the cost of education at a private college or university. The Enhanced Tuition Award program will provide students whose families earn less than $100,000 with a $6,000 discount on tuition to a private, nonprofit college or university in New York State. The award includes any discounts already provided through the state’s Tuition Assistance Program, better known as TAP, and requires participating institutions to split the remaining discount with the state.

“As a career focused college, we acknowledge our responsibility to make higher education accessible and affordable for our students, many of whom are balancing a great deal of work, life and family challenges, all while attending school. It makes sense for Trocaire to participate in this new program, which can offer our students additional financial aid. Any chance for us to build an educational environment with one less obstacle or financial challenge is incredibly important to us, and supports the mission and values of our Mercy institution. We are committed to student success, as outlined in our 2020 Strategic Plan, and looking forward to rolling out this new program for the fall semester,” said Jeffrey Lucas, Director of Financial Aid & Scholarships.

Enhanced Tuition Awards will be phased in over three years, beginning for New Yorkers making up to $100,000 annually in the fall of 2017, increasing to $110,000 in 2018, and reaching $125,000 in 2019. New and current students planning to attend Trocaire College during the fall 2017 semester will have the option of applying for the Enhanced Tuition Award (ETA) in the upcoming weeks. Students meeting the criteria are encouraged to apply for ETA through the New York State HESC website, and can contact Trocaire’s Financial Aid team for additional details and support navigating the application process.
